Firstly, Rachel and I want to say thank you to all of the Tournament teams, the USA Women’s Team and our outstanding volunteers, for making the first annual Sport Court 4 a great success!!!! We couldn’t have done it without you.
Secondly, What an awesome tournament! We had 5 teams in the A division and 4 in the B division competing for the Blue, Red and White Snorkels (instead of ribbons). Saturdays games consisted of round robin play for the 4 on 4 teams, but as a bonus, everyone had a chance or two to play on a potluck six on six team playing against the US National Women’s Team. Your support will surly help the Women’s team to a higher level of play in their quest for the Worlds Championships in Eger, Hungary. Coach Brigit Grimm thanked all of the competitors at the awards ceremony for their support in giving the women’s team good competition with the pot luck teams.
Sunday’s match up consisted of Double Elimination brackets for both divisions. Good and hard fought games were had including an upset victory by the Door County Sturgeons in the second bracket against unbeaten MSU in Overtime. The Sturgeons we able to rest and wait for the winner of the U of I and MSU game for the championships. As it would have it, a great final was had by MSU and the Sturgeons, with Kendall Banks’s Upstart Door County Sturgeons coming out on top in the final game. Congrats to all of the teams in the B Division and here is the final B Division rankings:
1. Door County Sturgeons
2. Michigan State University (Friendship)
3. University of Illinois
4. Late Entry
The A division had a very tight championship game with the UpGoers5 vs. Chicago Fire in the match. The match was back and forth for most of the half, but the UpGoers5 scored a last second goal at the end of the first half, giving them the lead 1-0. The second half would have the same run and gun style with the UpGoers5 scoring an additional goal to help seal the victory. The match ended 2-0. The final standings of the A Division are:
2. Chicago Fire
3. Golden Cocks
4. Green Bay Puckers
5. USA Chicks
Once again we thank you for making this tournament a great success and look forward to having the 2nd edition of the Sport Court 4 in the late Fall of 2013.
